CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering (CDWE) held a steel cutting ceremony on 30 September 2020 for the offshore wind installation vessel Green Jade.
Preliminary work and the ordering of critical items of equipment for the new vessel got underway earlier in 2020.A final investment decision to proceed with construction of the vessel was made in June 2020.
Green Jade is the first heavy lift and installation vessel to be built in Taiwan and will sail under the Taiwanese flag.
Being built at CSBC in Kaohsiung, Green Jade will combine transport and loading capacity with lifting height and green propulsion technology. The vessel has a 4,000-tonne capacity crane from Huisman and DP3 dynamic positioning.
At 216.5 m in length, Green Jade has a spacious, unobstructed deck and can accommodate up to 160 people. It will be capable of installing next-generation monopiles and jackets.
Environmental considerations are also an important element in the design of the vessel. Green Jade will have dual-fuel engines and will have a Green Passport and Clean Design notation. The ship will also have other environmental innovations, including a waste heat recovery system that converts heat from the exhaust gases and cooling water to electrical energy, in addition to various other fuel-saving measures.
Due to enter service in 2022, Green Jade will be deployed on the Hai Long offshore wind project. CDWE signed Taiwan’s first comprehensive, large-scale balance of plant preferred supplier agreement for the Hai Long project in October 2019.
It will also undertake transportation and installation for the Zhong Neng project in Taiwan.
