Fred Olsen Windcarrier has been awarded a contract to transport and install the turbines for the Changfang and Xidao (CFXD) windfarms in Taiwan
The company’s turbine installation vessel Brave Tern will undertake the project, after completing installation on the Yunlin offshore windfarm.
Brave Tern will install MHI Vestas Offshore V174-9.5MW turbines. The project will be divided into two phases in 2022 and 2023.
In 2019, Fred Olsen Ocean opened an office in Taiwan to use the group’s extensive experience in the offshore wind market in Europe. Brave Tern will make for Taiwan in April 2020.
The CFXD offshore windfarms are 11-25 km west of Taiwan. When completed, they will have a capacity of 600 MW with a total of 62 V174-9.5MW turbines. The project is due to be completed in 2023.
Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners reached financial close on the CFXD project in February 2020.
