Engine and generator manufacturer Cummins has introduced a remote monitoring solution for marine vessels to boost uptime and reduce maintenance costs
It has unveiled PrevenTech Marine to monitor Cummins-powered assets remotely using onboard connectivity, internet of things (IoT) and data analytics.
Cummins director and general manager of global marine Rachel Bridges said this new solution will help owners avoid unplanned downtime through the advanced detection, reporting and diagnosis of potential engine health issues.
“PrevenTech delivers deeper, actionable insights around the health and performance of Cummins engines and genset controls for customer peace of mind,” she said.
“We have and will continue to explore the most efficient and convenient ways to make this value-add information to suit all marine applications.”
PrevenTech Marine will be available to Cummins commercial and recreational clients mid-2021. It will be initially offered through an integration with Siren Marine, a leader in cloud-based connected vessel technology.
This technology enables vessel-wide monitoring and enables owners to track and manage vessels and fleets through an online portal. One element of PrevenTech is filtration intelligence technology FleetguardFIT, a comprehensive real-time filtration, oil and hydraulic fluid quality monitoring solution.
FleetguardFIT uses smart sensors, IoT cloud, and advanced analytics to provide information to engine and generator operators for maintenance.
FleetguardFIT integration extends PrevenTech’s health monitoring capabilities to consumables’ components. Cummins said it “reduces reliance on standardised maintenance schedules and minimises unnecessary costs”.
PrevenTech was developed Cummins’ digital accelerator group and will become available across other market sectors including oil and gas, mining and rail.
Technologies for monitoring vessel propulsion and optimising operations will be discussed in depth during Riviera Maritime Media’s series of virtual webinars, forums, conferences and technology days in 2021 - use this link for more details of these virtual events and to register on the events page
