Damen supports Indian shipyard development  

In India, a Damen affiliate has signed a memorandum of understanding with Square Port Shipyard to develop shipbuilding infrastructure enabling it to construct tugboats and other vessels. 

“A physical presence in one of the world’s fastest growing economies is critical,” said Damen regional sales director for Asia, Dingeman van Worden. “The availability of good infrastructure and economic labour costs will further strengthen our competitive edge in the global market. This partnership with Square Port Shipyard will enable us to bring our shipbuilding to India’s maritime sector.”

Damen Technical Cooperation (DTC) will support the development of the shipyard, located 250 km south of Mumbai, with the aim of building a range of Damen-designed vessels for the regional market. This agreement represents Damen’s third partnership on the Indian subcontinent.

“This agreement is a significant step in our vision to transform India’s maritime landscape through innovative technologies and sustainable methodologies,” says Square Port Shipyards director Fattesingh Patil.  

“Access to the latest shipbuilding technology and processes will give us a competitive advantage and address the issue of capacity constraints plaguing the Indian shipbuilding and repair industry.”
