US-based hybrid and electric propulsion systems developer Lavle is partnering with Denmark’s DEIF Group, a provider of control systems for generators, to work on a power management system for energy storage systems (ESS) for the marine market
Through the partnership, DEIF and Lavle are aiming to advance safer, more reliable, and more sustainable options for marine vessel electrification and DEIF’s focus is on bringing hybrid control systems for energy storage to the market.
The companies will jointly develop a hybrid controller based on DEIF’s Multi-Line 300 platform and Lavle’s Proteus ESS. The partnership will include collaboration on power management functions such as load dependent start/stop, ESS peak shave, 100% electric operations, support for heavy consumers, spinning reserve, and redundant control systems.
Lavle product manager ESS, Eric Galles said “Partnering with DEIF to combine our ESS (Proteus) with DEIF’s Multi-line 300 Hybrid controller will give us unparalleled integration into DEIF’s power management system. This will give our ESS the functionality and flexibility required to perform at the top of the market.”
DEIF global key account and owner manager Per Ole Sørensen said “The partnership will include collaboration on energy-efficient power management functions, and we look forward to exploiting the potential that a strong partnership like the one with Lavle USA presents.”
The Proteus ESS is a lithium-ion battery ESS that features a thermal management system to mitigate the risk of thermal runaway, with liquid cooling, optimised battery chemistry and multi-layer propagation barriers. It is designed so that no single component failure can take down more than a single battery string.
In July, Lavle announced it will deliver the first Proteus ESS to CleanDesign in Q3 2020.
