Cable manufacturer and installer Nexans has signed a framework agreement with developer Ørsted and New England transmission system company Eversource
The agreement could result in Nexans providing them with up to 1,000 km of subsea high voltage export cables for offshore windfarms in the US.
First delivery under the terms of the agreement is expected by 2022. The agreement extends until 2027.
Nexans subsea and land systems senior executive vice president Vincent Dessale said the agreement would help accelerate the energy transition in the US and bring the company’s subsea cable technology to the country.
Building on the group’s know-how and manufacturing footprint in Norway and Japan, Nexans is investing in a facility in the US to manufacture subsea high-voltage cables.
