Schneider Electric chief technology officer Ibrahim Gokcen is joining Maersk Tankers’ board of directors in November 2018 as part of the company’s digital drive.
He has more than 20 years of commercial and digital leadership experience.
In 2018, Mr Gokcen took on the role of chief technology officer at Schneider Electric.
Prior to that, he was chief digital officer at AP Moller-Maersk, where he was in charge of the digital strategy, products and establishment of partnerships with companies such as Microsoft.
He joined AP Moller-Maersk from GE where he spent 12 years and, among others, led the strategy and business development of a digital energy business.
“Ibrahim is one of the most accomplished digital leaders globally, with a passion for transformation processes. He also has valuable experience of the transportation industry. We are fortunate to have Ibrahim join our board, on which he will contribute to Maersk Tankers’ strategy and exciting journey ahead,” said AP Møller Holding chief executive and chairman of Maersk Tankers’ board of directors Robert M Uggla.
Mr Gokcen holds a PhD in computer science from Tulane University and is the co-author of several technology-related publications.
“I am excited to join the board of directors at one of the product tanker industry’s leading companies at a time when the company is entering its next phase of digital transformation, strengthening its competitive advantage,” said Mr Gokcen.
Maersk Tankers is known to be working closely with CargoMetrics and together these two are at the forefront of the digital transformation of the tanker industry.
How far away we are from a fully digitalised tanker industry is one of the vital questions to be discussed at the forthcoming Tanker Shipping & Trade conference in London in November.
Business, operational and technical issues impacting the crude, product and chemical tanker trades will be discussed in London at the Tanker Shipping & Trade Conference, Awards & Exhibition, 20-21 November 2018.
