Doha Marine Services (DMS) has unveiled a supply-on-demand solution with an IT application for providing services to offshore energy companies
This enables operators of offshore production facilities and drilling rigs to purchase offshore logistics services when required, at the capacity needed, using DMS’ marine solutions on a pay-as-you-go basis.
This digital tool enables energy companies to control their cargo movements on OSVs and other offshore services, from the point of booking through to post-transit analysis. Energy companies will be provided with a dashboard, allowing them to generate bookings, track cargo and monitor or adapt routes to reduce costs. They will only be charged for the cargo they transport and will not be restricted in service contracts, said DMS general manager Gerben Nijboer.
“Our industry’s historical vessel pricing model and market demand do not match in 2020,” he said. “DMS recognised a gap in the market for the more tailored service that supply-on-demand provides, allowing operators to pay for only what they need.”
He anticipates this will lead to sustainable costs savings and efficiency gains for energy companies and better utilisation of supply vessel capacity. It could also improve route planning and reduce fuel consumption for OSV owners who can optimise operations to meet demand.
A pilot of this supply-on-demand solution will be conducted in Qatar in January 2021, with vessels moving cargo to the North and East fields.
DMS said the number of vessels included in the new offering will increase along with demand for the service. Vessels will meet the clients’ marine assurance requirements and only vessels approved by DMS’ clients will be applied in the service offering.
Digital technology is at the heart of this service and provides value to vessel owners and energy companies involved.
This type of supply-on-demand service was discussed during Riviera’s Offshore Support Journal, Middle East virtual conference in November 2020. There was further debate on these issues during Offshore Support Journal, Asia virtual conference in December.
