The Norwegian offshore support vessel owner has selected a company to supply a raft of electrical power, automation and electronics for a newbuild offshore support vessel
DOF has chosen Kongsberg Maritime to supply a DC electric system and batteries for hybrid propulsion, automation and controls, and dynamic positioning (DP) for an offshore field support vessel being built in Poland.
Its 110-m vessel, to be named Sea Dragon, will have two 1-MWh battery packs for battery-hybrid propulsion to reduce emissions during operations on oilfields on the Grand Banks offshore Newfoundland.
Crist shipyard in Gdynia, Poland, is building this vessel with accommodation for 164 people, to a design by MMC Ship Design for completion in 2027.
It will be equipped with a range of Kongsberg systems, including the DC main switchboard, battery-hybrid system, main power generator, thruster induction motor and distribution transformer.
DOF also selected Kongsberg to supply bridge systems for navigation, K-Chief automation and controls and K-Pos DP3 system.
“With these innovations, this new ship is set to achieve fuel savings of up to 35% compared with similar vessels, marking a significant step forward in sustainable maritime technology,” said Kongsberg.
