EnBW North America has appointed a new leadership team that will steer its bid in the upcoming lease auction in the New York Bight
Long-term acting president and chief executive Dr Lars Gonschorek will serve as chief executive officer and chairman of the board, bringing with him more than a decade of experience in offshore wind development.
Dr Gonschorek was responsible for establishing EnBW’s early presence on the ground in the US, advancing offshore wind markets on both the east and west coasts and has been instrumental in building the EnBW North America team.
Damian Bednarz will serve as managing director EnBW North America after shaping the company’s community-first engagement strategy with key stakeholders and coalitions in the New York Bight over the last 18 months.
Mr Bednarz has prior experience of advancing clean energy issues and projects at the local and federal level in senior roles in the Department of Energy during the Obama-Biden administration.
Said Dr Gonschorek, “After being involved with North America operations for the last three years, I’m looking forward to continue leading the team to further success in the US offshore wind market .The US market is primed and ready for major offshore wind development on both coasts, and our seasoned team is equally ready for the challenge.”
Mr Bednarz said, “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to lead this talented team. We can meet our shared economic and climate goals while also expanding the benefits of this new industry throughout the US.”
The Department of the Interior announced details of the proposed sale for offshore wind development in the New York Bight, an area of shallow water between Long Island and the New Jersey coast, in June 2021.
This is the first competitive offshore wind lease sale for the Biden-Harris administration and has the potential to unlock over 7 GW of offshore wind energy.
