A joint research project (JRP) to develop an industry-recognised benchmark for ship energy efficiency solutions is calling for participants.
The main objective of the JRP is to gather a full set of ship performance data including model test results, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) calculations and ship scale measurements to build knowledge on the effects of propeller-hull interaction, which can be used to improve hull design along with efficient propellers and energy-saving devices (ESDs).
The JRP project manager Dr Dmitriy Ponkratov told MP ideal participants for the JRP include ship designers, shipyards, class societies, ESD designers, CFD developers and practitioners, shipowners, universities and research institutes.
The project has six partners: MARIN, Lloyd’s Register, Sintef Ocean, Miros, VAF instruments and CSSRC.
Dr Ponkratov explained that the JRP will focus on cargo vessels – “the more conventional the design the better” – to develop generic best practices and recommendations.
