The Victor Restis-controlled shipping company, Enterprises Shipping & Trading (EST), has placed an order with Envirocleanse to fit its inTank ballast water treatment system (BWTS) across its entire fleet of tankers and bulkers.
The initial installation will be in Q2 2019, with another 30 plus vessels fitted with the systems over the following five years.
According to Envirocleanse, inTank is the first approved filterless BWTS to treat ballast water during the voyage.
Enterprises Shipping and Trading fleet manager, Mr Candiotis remarked “Finally, a solution that fits with the operational profile of our vessels. This is what the industry has been waiting for for the last 10 years. EST chose not to decide on BWTS retrofits because of the immaturity of the industry, the regulatory uncertainty and the need to filter huge volumes of water while in port waiting for a costly failure. Our strategy has been to wait for the next-generation of technologies designed to fit with and have the least impact on our fleet’s operations and the vessels’ engineroom, while at the same time providing an adequate degree of redundancy and assurance of compliance in all occasions.”
Envirocleanse executive vice president Matt Hughes said “We are very excited to be working with such a well-respected organisation such as EST. They have done an outstanding job of analytics and research to validate the fact that our inTank BTWS is well-suited for medium to long-range vessels such as the ones in their fleet. EST’s progressive and industry-leading mentality is leading the way in challenging the convention that ballast water treatment must be done while in port – a concept that has proven to be costly and troublesome for many owners with inline systems. We look forward to working with their operations and technical team to ensure a successful and long-term relationship.”
Envirocleanse is a division of Charter Brokerage LLC, a Berkshire Hathaway company.
