Holland America Line (HAL) has added its 11th ship, following the handover of 2,600-passenger Rotterdam from Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard in Italy
"Rotterdam looks stunning and will certainly live up to bearing such an iconic name as the new flagship of our fleet, carrying on a tradition of excellence our guests have loved for nearly 150 years," said HAL president Gus Antorcha. The first Rotterdam made its maiden voyage from the Netherlands to New York in October 1872.
Upon delivery, Rotterdam will remain in non-guest operations until its transatlantic crossing 20 October 2021 from Amsterdam, the Netherlands to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where it will then begin its maiden season in the Caribbean. Naming details have not been finalised and will be announced at a later date, said parent company Carnival Corp.
The third vessel in the Pinnacle-class series and the seventh ship to bear the name for HAL, 99,500-gt Rotterdam will carry 2,668 guests and feature highly successful amenities and innovations introduced with its sister ships, Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam.
Rotterdam has an overall length of 299.65 m and beam of 35 m, 12 decks, with propulsion supplied by ABB Azipod thrusters and a service speed of 18 knots.
As in its sister ships, Rotterdam will feature designs by renowned hospitality designer Adam D Tihany. Additionally, several public areas will be designed by Bjorn Storbraaten.
Passengers can expect all the popular Pinnacle-class features such as multiple dining and entertainment experiences, including specialty restaurant Rudi’s Sel de Mer, the World Stage, with two-story, 270° wraparound LED screens for immersive main stage performances, and the live music at sea in Music Walk with Lincoln Center Stage, BB King’s Blues Club, Billboard Onboard and the new Rolling Stone Rock Room. Other featured hallmarks of the premium brand include wraparound teak decks, luxurious staterooms, a stunning artwork collection and award-winning cuisine ranging from casual to fine dining.
Rotterdam is the 17th ship constructed by Fincantieri for HAL.
