Qatargas has delivered the first Q-Flex cargo of LNG to the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) Summit LNG located offshore Bangladesh
The cargo, aboard Qatargas-chartered 210,000-m3 Al Safliya, was loaded at Ras Laffan Port in December.
This is the first commercial open water ship-to-ship transfer involving a Q-Flex vessel delivering to Bangladesh Oil, Gas & Mineral Corporation (Petrobangla) at their Summit LNG Terminal (SLNG).
SLNG is a project jointly developed by US-based Excelerate Energy and Petrobangla on a build, own and operate basis.
Located offshore Moheshkhali Island in the Bay of Bengal, the FSRU Summit LNG is under a 15-year charter deal to Petrobangla and carried the inaugural LNG cargo from Qatar in April 2018. Besides supplying the FSRU, Excelerate acted as the owner’s engineer for Summit LNG Terminal Co Inc in regard to the fixed infrastructure components of the terminal, which included a subsea plug, mooring system and subsea pipeline.
Under a long-term sales and purchase agreement inked in September 2017, Qatargas will supply Petrobangla with up to 2.5 mta of LNG for 15 years.
