MAN Rollo has completed the factory acceptance tests for three new Stage V generator sets out of 120 to be delivered for a 40-vessel inland tanker newbuilding programme
After achieving certification, the three sets – two LNG and one diesel set – were transported to shipbuilder Concordia Damen in Werkendam, the Netherlands. These first three MAN sets will be installed in the first Parsifal-class tanker Blue Marjan, which was launched at Serbia’s Kladovo shipyard and is now located in Werkendam. When completed, the next three sets will be transported to Werkendam for the second tanker in the series. Thereafter, three Stage V engines will be delivered every month for more than three years. In total, MAN Rollo will supply 80 MAN E3262LE262 LNG sets of 495 ekW and 40 MAN D2676LE328 diesel sets of 277 ekW. The LNG sets serve for propulsion and onboard power, the diesel sets serve as a backup.
Each Parsifal-class tanker will have an overall length of 110 m, beam of 11.45 m and depth of 5.05 m. Each LNG-powered tanker will have eight cargo tanks with a total capacity of 3,040 m3.
Cryonorm will supply LNG fuel systems with 60 m3 tanks for each eco-friendly vessel under a contract with Concordia Damen.
The Parsifal-class inland waterway tankers are being built for JP Morgan Asset Management, which will charter the vessels to Shell, transporting mineral oils between Antwerp, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and the Rhine network. A joint venture between VT Group and Marlow Navigation Netherlands has signed a ship management agreement with Shell for the technical and crew management of the tankers.
“In the presence of our client, Lloyd’s Register subjected the three sets to a whole series of tests; for example, an alarm test, different static load points, a dynamic test and a crash stop. This means MAN Rollo can now provide a fully certified MAN Stage V solution as one of the first in the maritime industry,” said MAN Rollo project manager Peter Nieuwveld.
The MAN Rollo engineering team has adapted and dynamically tested the generator sets for this Stage V application in close collaboration with engineers from MAN and engine management specialist Heinzmann. By March, the team had successfully completed a series of dynamic tests, after which the sets on the test stand were further fine-tuned. Every generator set now meets Stage V requirements in every load step.
MAN Rollo, part of leading Dutch mobility company Pon, is the international importer of the MAN brand in nine countries in Europe, supplying engines, energy systems, parts and services for coastal vessels, inland vessels, workboats and yachts.
