Norwegian subsea company Ocean Installer has formed a new business unit dedicated to the fast-growing offshore wind market and has appointed Even Larsen, formerly chief executive of Fred Olsen Windcarrier, to a new role, director of offshore wind
Ocean Installer first announced plans to target the offshore wind industry earlier in 2020.
Ocean Installer chief executive Odd Strømsnes said, “I am very excited about this new chapter for our company, which makes Ocean Installer relevant in the ongoing global transition from oil and gas to renewable energy.
“Even’s capabilities and track record are of great relevance to our new initiative, which will enable us to play a role in the energy transition.”
Mr Larsen, who will start his new role on 1 August 2020, has a master’s degree in marine engineering and naval architecture from NTNU in Norway and has extensive executive and operational experience in the offshore wind industry.
He played a key role building the offshore wind business at Fred Olsen and its subsidiaries over the last seven years. From 2016 he held the position of chief executive of Fred Olsen Windcarrier and later Fred Olsen Ocean.
Mr Larsen said, “The offshore wind industry is expanding rapidly from Europe into a truly global business. Ocean Installer is a respected subsea installation company and I am excited to join the ambitious team for its transition into the offshore wind segment.”
