Alfa Laval-owned pump manufacturer Framo is to supply pumping systems for use during the installation of the foundations at Scotland’s largest offshore wind project
The contract for pumps for the Seagreen offshore windfarm is the company’s second for pumping systems for this particular application as it applies extensive experience from the offshore oil and gas industry to renewable energy applications.
The contract, which was awarded by Saipem, consists of Framo pumping systems that will be used in suction bucket foundations for the Seagreen windfarm. The Framo pumping technology will be used to secure and safely anchor the foundations to the seabed.
Alfa Laval marine division president Sameer Kalra said, “This second order for Framo pumping systems for use with suction bucket foundations is an important milestone for us and cements our position in this application. It takes our long-proven and validated technology from offshore oil and gas and applies it in the renewable energy industry.
Suction anchor foundations are cost-effective and can be installed without the noise associated with pile driving. The suction bucket foundations are also easy to decommission.
