Fred Olsen Windcarrier has been contracted by the Danish company Geo to supply a vessel for preliminary geotechnical investigations for the Thor offshore wind project in the Danish sector of the North Sea
Fred Olsen Windcarrier will utilise the liftboat Jill to support Geo with an offshore borehole campaign.
Jill will provide a stable platform for the campaign, scheduled to commence in June 2020.
The purpose of the assignment is to acquire geotechnical and geological information about the subsurface to be used as a basis for developers to assess the soil conditions for the Thor project.
Jill is a self-propelled class 2 dynamic positioning vessel that can operate in the geotechnical, offshore wind, offshore construction, oil and gas and cable repair markets. The vessel is outfitted to support customer’s construction, maintenance, production enhancement, and decommissioning projects.
The liftboat has 102-m long legs, a rack and pinion hydraulic jacking system, large cargo deck and, in addition to its main crane, has crane coverage provided by three auxiliary cranes.
