Fred Olsen Windcarrier is supporting Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy with extended vessel capacity by temporarily mobilising a second installation vessel to Taiwan
In 2018, Fred Olsen Windcarrier was awarded a contract by Siemens Gamesa for the transport and installation of wind turbines on Phases 1 and 2 of the Yunlin offshore windfarm, using the installation vessel Brave Tern.
The companies have now signed an amendment extending the charter period, which will allow Brave Tern to complete the Yunlin project in a continuous campaign.
To facilitate the agreement, Bold Tern will leave Europe, undergo a crane upgrade and subsequently fulfil other contract obligations for the 2022 season in the region.
Fred Olsen Windcarrier’s third wind turbine installation vessel, Blue Tern, will continue to secure timely execution of the Moray East windfarm in the UK, which up to this point has been undertaken by Bold Tern.
Siemens Gamesa head of project execution Henning Lang said, “We appreciate Fred Olsen Windcarrier’s effort to work closely with us to support our Taiwan pipeline. We have a long history with them and this is one of many examples where they have proven to be a trusted service provider.”
The shipowner said, “The vessel rotation is the fourth time in five years when Fred Olsen Windcarrier has, at short notice, been able to support its clients with additional installation capacity.”
