GE Renewable Energy has completed production of the first nacelle for the first Haliade 150-6 MW offshore wind turbine for the first French offshore windfarm, the Saint-Nazaire project
The nacelle is the first in a series of Haliade 150-6 MW turbines to be produced for the Saint-Nazaire offshore windfarm.
The windfarm, which is under construction, will use 80 Haliade 150-6 MW turbines, installed 12 to 20 km off the coast.
When operational in 2022, the windfarm will produce enough power to supply 20% of the electricity consumed in France’s Loire-Atlantique department.
Work is now underway at Port of Saint-Nazaire on a storage and assembly area for wind turbine components. Wind turbines will be stored there, starting in 2021.
Work offshore will begin in 2021 with installation of the foundations and inter-array cables. The offshore substation for the project will also be installed in 2021, with the first turbines to be installed in early 2022.
