The US Coast Guard Marine Safety Centre has received an application for type-approval from Glosten for its oneTank ballast water treatment system
The application for a US Coast Guard (USCG) ballast water management system (BWMS) type-approval certificate by Glosten increases the number of BWMS pending approval to eight. Four of the pending approvals are for modifications to BWMS which have previously achieved type-approval. The remaining four are seeking USCG type-approval for the first time:
The Glosten oneTank system is an alternative ballast water treatment system that can be used ashore, on a barge or lifted onto a vessel. It could also form an important contingency plan for vessels that arrive in port with failed or inadequate BWMS as discussed in the alternatives to ship-board ballast water treatment systems webinar which was hosted by Riviera Maritime Media and featured Glosten director of research & development Kevin J Reynolds.
