Fure Valo, the fourth of Gothia Tankers’ six ‘climate-smart’ LNG-fuelled newbuilds, was delivered from the Avic Dingheng Shipyard in eastern China to owners Furetank in mid-November, the alliance has announced. The remaining two newbuilds are due to be launched in 2019.
Like its sister ships, the new vessel has a deadweight of 17,999 tonnes, overall length of 150 m and a cargo capacity of 19,900 m3, will meet the Tier III emissions rules and run on dual-fuel/LNG propulsion. It will use only LNG and battery power in port.
The third vessel delivered was 17,900-dwt Thun Venern for Thun Tankers, one of the members of the Gothia Tanker consortium comprising Furetank, Alvtank and Thun. The ice-class vessels will be deployed for coastal runs on the Baltic Sea. They will complement an existing fleet mainly composed of small tankers between 5,000 and 10,000 dwt and intermediate tankers of between 10,000 and 20,000 dwt.
