Greek newcomer Venergy Maritime expands product tanker orderbook, makes container vessel debut

The company, which entered the shipowning business in 2025, closed the year with a fleet of 13 firm vessels, including newbuildings, and holds additional contract options to further scale its platform. While initially focused exclusively on MR tankers, the owner has recently broadened its operational footprint.

Venergy Maritime director Andreas Giakoumelos said in a social media post that the company currently oversees three active secondhand eco MR2 tankers, built between 2018 and 2020.

In addition, the Greek owner has eight firm newbuildings on order, comprising six MR2 and two LR2 tankers, all scrubber-fitted, with deliveries scheduled between 2027 and 2029, Mr Giakoumelos added.

Riviera reported in November that Venergy was in discussions with China’s New Times Shipbuilding for the construction of two 115,000-dwt vessels. The latest developments confirm this, with the company also having signed a letter of intent for two additional ships at the yard.

All MR2 newbuildings are being constructed at South Korea’s K Shipbuilding, where Venergy also holds options for two further vessels.

“Our investment philosophy is clear: to build a fleet of modern, high-specification tonnage designed for energy efficiency, low consumption and operational resilience across market cycles,” Mr Giakoumelos said.

Container vessel expansion

Venergy Maritime has also established OceanV Maritime, a dedicated container vessel management platform.

Through OceanV Maritime, the group has placed an order for two firm plus two optional 1,900-TEU feeder container ships at CSSC’s Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding.

OceanV Maritime is among a growing number of Greek owners that expanded into the container sector during 2025, with activity largely concentrated on feeder-sized vessels.

“As we head into 2026, our focus remains on disciplined growth, strong execution, and building teams and assets that stand the test of time,” Mr Giakoumelos added.
