Greek owner Diamantis Diamantidis launches new shipmanagement company

Propontis Shipping has appeared across multiple shipping data platforms as the owner and manager of 156,828-dwt, 2021-built Atlantic Queen and Atlantic Princess, formerly known as Crude Zephyrus and Crude Levante.

Riviera reported that, in the second half of 2025 Diamantidis-led Delta Tankers had acquired the young tanker pair – previously owned by Theodore Angelopoulos-backed Metrostar Management – for approximately US$156M.

The vessels were transferred to the Propontis Shipping fleet toward the end of the year, according to Equasis data. The new company has also launched its website, stating it was founded in 2025 and positioning itself as representing the “next generation of Greek maritime excellence.”

According to its website, the company’s address is located in close proximity to the offices of Delta Tankers and Marmaras Navigation, the tanker and dry bulk arms of Diamantis Diamantidis’ shipping interests. Together, these companies operate a combined fleet of 57 vessels, based on information available online.

Official documents from the Greek Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy show that Propontis Shipping’s Greek office was approved in January 2025.

Propontis Shipping is also registered in the UK, with filings indicating it was incorporated in August 2025. Documents further show that Diamantis Diamantidis retains significant control over the company.

The Greek shipowner is also the founder of the Propondis Foundation, which aims to support education, scientific research, and the arts in their broadest sense.

Market sources note that it has become increasingly common in recent years for traditional Greek shipowners to establish new shipmanagement companies. 

In some cases, these ventures serve as a platform for the next generation to take on leadership roles, while in others they reflect independent initiatives by younger family members seeking to establish their own presence in the industry. In additional instances, they represent strategic moves by the owners themselves to diversify and expand their fleets.
