A growing Indonesian port is digitalising towage and pilotage operations as it expands capacity
Port of Banten will deploy a port management information system and software to dispatch tugs and pilot vessels as it caters for more ship dockings.
This expanding port is adopting Innovez One’s marineM program and artificial intelligence (AI)-powered modules to digitalise its towage and pilotage operational planning.
Innovez One has already supplied similar technology to three other ports in Indonesia.
Port of Banten expects marineM modules will be fully operational by February 2021.
The port was relying on physical paper trails, whiteboards and Microsoft Excel spreadsheets for planning resources and operations. From Q1 2021, it will use marineM to optimise towage and pilotage, while managing vessel and crew allocation.
Port of Banten said this will save time and operational costs, lowering gaseous emissions thanks to reduced tugboat fuel consumption.
Digitalising operations should also improve the efficiency of assisting ships into harbour berths, increasing port throughput and cutting delays.
The suite of software Port of Banten will be using includes the marineM marine job planner application to the port. This runs a marineM AI engine to maximise efficiency for pilotage and towage operations. It handles complex task allocations and auto-generates schedules while allowing users to make minor adjustments when required.
Port of Banten pilots, tugboats and pilot boats will use marineM applications to acknowledge receipt of job assignments and provide real-time updates of progress.
Through this information and charts, the port will monitor tugboat movements in real time and monitor the progress of every job instantaneously.
