French cargo containment technology provider GTT has received an order from its partner South Korean shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for the tank design of three LNG carriers on behalf of an unnamed shipowner
GTT will design the tanks of the vessels which will offer a cargo capacity 180,000 m3 and be fitted with the company’s Mark III flex membrane containment system.
The Mark III membrane system is a containment and insulation system directly supported by the ship’s hull structure. It is composed of a primary corrugated stainless steel membrane, positioned on top of prefabricated insulation panels, including a complete secondary membrane made of composite material.
The system employs standard prefabricated components that can accommodate any shape and capacity of tank, designed for mass production techniques and easy assembly.
This is the latest order for the Mark III membrane which also features on a Total Marine Fuels’ vessel on charter to MOL, which is also the first LNG bunker vessel to be based in France. In May, GTT received an order to install cryogenic fuel tanks on 12 LNG-fuelled container vessels for CMA CGM.
The SHI order will be delivered between Q2 2023 and Q1 2024.
