Harren & Partner in Germany has acquired the jack-up vessel Wind Lift I and launched SAL Renewables, a specialist provider of offshore wind services
The new company will operate as a sister company to heavy-lift shipping company SAL Heavy Lift, which is also owned by Harren & Partner, and focus primarily on the operations and maintenance market.
Wind Lift I was built in 2010 and has dynamic positioning (DP) capability. Harren & Partner said the jack-up crane vessel “is ideally suited for offshore wind maintenance projects as well as the installation of wind turbine parts.”
With a 500-tonne capacity offshore crane and a fully equipped accommodation block for up to 50 people, the vessel has a strong track record in the offshore wind market.
SAL Renewables managing director Heiko Felderhoff said, “Wind Lift I represents an important enhancement of our fleet. It extends our scope to provide customers with comprehensive, customised solutions. It is a highly flexible vessel. It is a great start point for our new venture.”
SAL Renewables head of projects Matthieu Moerman said, “With Wind Lift I we are not only targeting the operations and maintenance market but also decommissioning and upgrading of existing windfarms.
“Wind Lift I was recently deployed by SAL for a hydraulic hammer test as part of an offshore wind project in the North Sea. Despite the season’s unpredictable weather patterns, the vessel managed the job perfectly.”
In addition to Wind Lift I, SAL Renewables also has access to the DP2 heavy-lift ship Blue Giant.
Harren & Partner managing director Dr Martin Harren said, “Wind power has been a cornerstone of our business in the past few years, and we continue to see significant projects here.
“A major energy transition is underway. By offering maintenance and component installation services we are expanding our total service offering to the global renewables market.”
