Jumbo has been awarded a contract to transport and install wind turbine substructures for the Yunlin offshore windfarm in Taiwan.
Jumbo said it was awarded the contract earlier this year by Yunneng Windpower Co, a Taiwanese subsidiary of the developer of the Yunlin offshore windfarm, wpd AG. The project reached financial close on 30 May 2019.
Jumbo’s scope includes transporting 40 monopiles, 120 monopile sections and 40 transition pieces as well as installing 80 transition pieces offshore.
Preparation and planning work is already underway, with the first components due to be transported to Taiwan in Q4 2019. The company said installation work is scheduled to take place in mid-2020.
The 640-MW Yunlin offshore wind project is the first large multi-megawatt offshore windfarm in Taiwan. It will be developed 8 km off the west coast of Taiwan and will use 80 Siemens Gamesa SG 8.0-167 DD offshore wind turbines, this being the first order for the SG 8.0-167 DD in the Asia Pacific region.
Fred Olsen Windcarrier is to mobilise one of its purpose-built jack-up installation vessels in early 2020 to install the turbines.
