Optimus Wind Ltd, a subsidiary of Ørsted, has turned to Subsea 7 group company Seaway 7 to install the inner array grid cable system on the Hornsea Two offshore windfarm
The Hornsea Two offshore windfarm is approximately 90 km off the Yorkshire coast in the UK sector of the North Sea. It will have a capacity of 1.386 GW and will consists of 165 wind turbines each with a capacity of 8.4 MW.
The inner array grid cable system will consist of 165 66-kV copper-core submarine composite cables with a length of more than 420 km.
In addition to the submarine cable installation works, Seaway 7 will also undertake pre-installation submarine cable route surveys, perform pre-installation boulder clearance activity and execute post-lay trenching services.
Project engineering will commence immediately and offshore activities are due to commence in 2021.
Subsea 7 senior vice president renewables and heavy lifting Steph McNeill said “We look forward to continuing our collaborative relationship with Ørsted to install the entire inner array grid cable system on Hornsea Two.”
She noted that the award follows on from completing installation activity for the Hornsea One offshore wind project earlier this year.
In May 2019, DEME Offshore was awarded a contract to transport and install the foundations and wind for Hornsea Two.
The Hornsea Two windfarm is adjacent to the northern and western edge of the Hornsea One windfarm.
