174,000-m3 Transgas Power marks a major breakthrough for China State Shipbuilding Corporation and is the first of two ships for Greek shipowner Dynagas
Hudong-Zhonghua said it has adopted the design concept of "green, environmental protection, low carbon, safety" to endow the ship with a reliable, versatile and economically efficient profile.
The 294 m x 47 m FSRU combines all the functions of a traditional LNG carrier and land-based receiving station with LNG transportation, receiving, storage and regasification functions. The vessel’s hull line incorporates an advanced multi-objective optimisation design concept and can reach speeds of up to 19.5 knots.
The ship is equipped with the latest generation of open seawater glycol heating and a closed steam glycol composite heating system, which can be applied to sea areas with various temperatures. Each regas unit has a capacity of 250M standard cubic feet per day with the rated send-out capacity standing at nearly 500M standard cubic feet per day.
Compared with traditional LNG carriers, the low-temperature system of the ship will operate normally in FSRU mode, which can operate 24 hours a day for many months, and deliver LNG to the land pipeline network. There are other more complex conditions in which liquid tank loading and unloading, empty tank shutdown and maintenance, and regasification and export are carried out simultaneously.
The ship operates a dual-fuel electric propulsion system that meets stringent IMO Tier III emission requirements when operating in gas mode.
Commenting on the vessel, Hudong-Zhonghua said the ship’s “successful R&D and construction has enriched the genealogy of China’s LNG industry chain and achieved synchronisation with the latest equipment in the international market, demonstrating Hudong Zhonghua’s strong technical reserves and advanced equipment development capabilities in the international LNG industry chain equipment field, and firmly ranks among the first in the field of international LNG equipment manufacturing.”
Delivery of its sister ship, Transgas Force, is also expected this year. Additionally, Hudong-Zhonghua has secured a newbuilding contract from PetroChina International for three 174,000-m3 LNG carriers.
