As a result of a successful auction process, OLT Offshore LNG Toscana’s LNG import terminal offshore Italy will operate at 100% capacity during the gas year 2019-2020, handling 6.3M m3 of LNG
OLT Offshore LNG Toscana, which manages the terminal, said the allocation capacity auction process was introduced in 2018, making the regasification sector more flexible and attractive for spot, long- and mid-term cargoes. Some 36% of LNG cargoes to the OLT Offshore LNG Toscana’s LNG import terminal will come from the US.
Since it began commercial operations in 2013, FSRU Toscana has received LNG cargoes from 10 different countries: Algeria, Egypt, Nigeria, Norway, Peru, Qatar, Trinidad & Tobago, the US, Spain and the Netherlands, ensuring a diverse supply of LNG sources.
The terminal, moored about 22 km off the coast between Livorno and Pisa, is connected to Italy’s national gas grid through a 36.5-km pipeline. The centrepiece of the terminal is FSRU Toscana, which has a nameplate capacity of 2.7 mta of LNG. The import terminal can accommodate LNG carriers up to 180,000 m3 or about 90% of the global fleet.
In 2021, OLT Offshore LNG Toscana expects to begin small-scale commercial activities, allowing it to load 41 slots for small-scale LNG carriers which will deliver LNG into storage under construction in ports. The company said it is modifying the terminal to accommodate small-scale LNG services.
