Japanese energy company JERA and installation contractor Shimizu have concluded a memorandum of understanding that will see them collaborate in the offshore wind energy sector
The MOU provides that JERA and Shimizu will explore ways to utilise their respective know-how and resources in offshore wind to collaborate on projects in Japan and overseas.
Based on the MOU, both companies plan to respond to upcoming Japanese government tenders relating to developing offshore wind power projects in Akita prefecture and elsewhere in Japan.
The companies will also continue to search for suitable locations and evaluate technology with the goal of further project development.
JERA, a joint venture between Tepco and Chubu Electric Power Company, said it would leverage its experience gained in large-scale development projects it has carried out in the UK and Taiwan.
Shimizu plans to enhance its focus on constructing offshore windfarms, using a self-elevating platform (jack-up) vessel it is currently constructing.
