JGC Corp, which operates the overseas engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) business of the JGC Group, has been awarded the pre-front end engineering and design (Pre-FEED) contract for an FLNG facility project in Nigeria
The project is planned by UTM Offshore, a Nigeria-based private company engaged primarily in crude oil sales and construction equipment leasing, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
UTM Offshore hopes to install a 1.2M tonne per year facility at the ExxonMobil and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation-operated Yoho field, in the OML 140 deepwater field.
FEED and EPC phases are planned after the competition of the pre-FEED. The FLNG unit should be on stream in 2025. When completed, this will be the first FLNG facility in Nigeria and is seen as a milestone project.
JGC highlighted numerous undeveloped small-scale offshore oil and gas fields in Nigeria and other African countries, with various projects planned including FLNG plants.
A statement from JGC said “Through the awarded project, we aim to expand our business into the African region, which is expected to grow in the future, and contribute to the further development of industry and infrastructure.”
JGC Corp is currently executing the EPC of two FLNG facilities – for Petronas in Malaysia, and Eni’s Coral FLNG in Mozambique.
