Kongsberg acquires survey technology developed by Argeo

Before the company ran into financial problems, Argeo developed a comprehensive software solution for automatic collection, processing and visualisation of sensor data from autonomous platforms. 

The transfer of IP, software, hardware and other assets developed by Argeo is underway.

Norway-based Kongsberg Discovery is acquiring Argeo Whisper, Argeo Listen and Argeo Scope technology developed by Argeo, which was forced into bankruptcy when the level of work it was expecting declined.

In a statement, Kongsberg Discovery said the sensors and software solutions that form the basis of Argeo Whisper, Argeo Listen and Argeo Scope would be integrated into the company, along with ‘highly skilled’ Argeo personnel.

Kongsberg Discovery president Martin Wien Fjell described the acquisition of the technology as ‘highly strategic.’

Mr Fjell said, “Argeo Whisper and Argeo Listen expand our sensor portfolio with active and passive electromagnetic sensing capabilities, strengthening our ability to detect and interpret complex underwater environments.

“In addition, Argeo Scope will enhance our Blue Insight analytics platform, providing a comprehensive solution for automated dataflow and ocean data visualisation.”

Kongsberg Discovery executive vice president ocean technology Audun Berg said he is keen to use what he described as “valuable software, hardware, and highly skilled personnel.”

Mr Berg said, “We are pleased to continue developing and integrating the technology Argeo developed into Kongsberg Discovery. This will allow us to develop new products and solutions together. We will soon be able to deliver value-added solutions to all Hugin customers and continue to expand our offerings to other platforms, such as remotely operated vehicles, drones and towed vehicles.

“These solutions will be integrated with Blue Insight, Kongsberg Discovery’s digital solution for information from the oceans, focusing on internet security and seamless integration.”
