Providers of e-learning content and cloud-based simulation are widening their availability through maritime academies and collaboration
Kongsberg Digital (KDI) has won a contract to provide the University of Cebu, in the Philippines, a new cloud-based engineroom simulator. 185 K-Sim Engine e-learning licences will be issued to the marine engineering teaching faculty.
Its K-Sim Engine cloud-based simulation solution is certified according to DNV’s class D standard and is available via KDI’s digital platform, K-Sim Connect.
This enables students at home to run online simulation exercises with the same engine models as the K-Sim Engine simulator systems already installed on the University’s METC and Lapu-Lapu Mandaue campuses.
University of Cebu president Augusto W Go said cloud-based training facilitates teaching when students are unable to attend their courses and widens the attraction of courses.
“When the lockdowns occurred, we pledged to acquire and utilise the appropriate technology to protect and enhance our educational services,” he said.
“KDI’s online solutions are a game-changer for the maritime industry. With this cloud-based asset on board we expect to attract more students to the region, and are pleased to be progressing with training methodologies which are fit for the future.”
Wärtsilä Voyage’s cloud simulation solution has become available on Ocean Technologies Group’s (OTG) Ocean Learning Platform. Instructor-led interactive simulation training, automated assessment solutions, and a growing library of self-directed simulation exercises suitable for a wide range of deck and engineering learning pathways are included.
Wärtsilä’s cloud simulation is immediately available to a combined customer pool of more than 3,000 shipping companies and training centres, plus over a million seafarers allowing training, assessment and certification to be accessed at any time, and from anywhere with online connectivity.
In addition, Wärtsilä Voyage simulation users will gain access to OTG’s online user experience and a wide range of tools to plan, deliver, and report on seafarer training including virtual classrooms for remote collaboration in mission brief and debrief, e-training content and assistance to users for creating, publishing and distributing e-learning content from within the platform.
