A leading Chinese turbine manufacturer has unveiled three new offshore wind turbines tailored to the needs of the fast-growing offshore wind market in the country.
The new turbines from Goldwind include an 8-MW offshore wind turbine, the GW168-8MW, the 6-MW large rotor-diameter GW184-6.45MW, a ‘typhoon-adapted’ and low-wind speed offshore model, the GW168-6.45MW, and the low and medium wind speed onshore unit, the GW155-3.3MW.
Speaking at the launch event, Goldwind chairman Wu Gang said, “We are committed to providing fast, accurate, environmentally friendly and integrated solutions for customers with optimal levelised cost of energy.”
Goldwind has been actively exploring the offshore market and developing the offshore wind power technology for a number of years and has invested significant time and funding in R&D.
Goldwind developed the GW168-8MW ‘smart’ turbine independently. It is currently the largest offshore wind turbine in terms of capacity in China. It has a rotor diameter of 168 m. The company is expected to complete installation of first prototype in the second half of next year.
The company said the GW184-6.45MW “has set a new record with the largest rotor diameter in the world” at 184 m.
