Linde has been selected as LNG technology licensor for phases 2 and 3 of the BP-operated Greater Tortue Ahmeyim deepwater LNG project on the Senegal and Mauritania maritime border offshore Africa
Linde will provide technology licensing services, based on its MFC2 liquefaction technology. Additionally, the company will also manufacture and supply the related cryogenic coil wound heat exchangers, subject to a future call-off.
“Being selected by a world-class oil and gas major like BP for a complex project is another milestone in successfully implementing our natural gas liquefaction technology around the globe” said Linde executive vice president and Linde Engineering CEO Dr Christian Bruch.
The Linde MFC2 liquefaction technology is both compact and highly energy efficient, making it well suited to offshore projects like Greater Tortue Ahmeyim.
At a depth of 2,850 m, the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project will produce gas from an ultra-deepwater subsea system and mid-water floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel, which will process the gas, removing heavier hydrocarbon components. The gas will then be transferred to a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility at an innovative nearshore hub located on the Mauritania and Senegal maritime border. Total gas resources in the field are estimated to be around 15Tn ft3.
For the first phase of the project, which will be commissioned in 2022, Golar LNG’s subsidiary Gimi MS Corporation is converting the 125,000-m3 LNG carrier Gimi to an FLNG at Singapore’s Keppel Shipyard, a subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine. The shipyard will supply design, detailed engineering and procurement of the marine systems, as well as conversion-related construction services. Delivery of the vessel is expected in H1 2022. Gimi will be designed to produce approximately 2.5 mta of LNG under a 20-year contract for BP.
The project is being jointly developed by BP, Kosmos Energy, Société des Pétroles du Sénégal (PETROSEN), and Société Mauritanienne des Hydrocarbures et de Patrimoine Minier (SMHPM).
