Total Lubmarine’s new engine coolant uses patented carboxylate technology
The company said WT Supra Coolant is an environmentally friendly inhibitor concentrate that delivers extended service life and corrosion protection.
Total Lubmarine global brand manager Stuart Fuller said “We offer a solution to help increase operating performance and protection for both engine manufacturers and operators alike, which gives complete assurance on their engine performance”.
Total Lubmarine said the coolant has received approval from more than 10 major engine designers. Mr Fuller said this would give the market “confidence in the quality and suitability” in the product’s technology and what it can deliver for the marine and power generation industry.
The coolant has been specifically designed for use in marine 2-stroke, 4-stroke and stationary engines as well as smaller, high-speed auxiliary engines.
WT Supra contains no inorganic ingredients, such as phosphates, nitrates, amines, boron or silicates, typically found in other coolants. Mr Fuller said “We have been careful to develop an advanced solution that reduces the need for frequent waste disposal and provides added protection to the environment with non-polluting properties. It uses the latest organic technology, delivering high performance and extended service life to equipment, reducing overall maintenance costs.”
The coolant provides protection of wet cylinder liners at increased temperatures and low inhibitor depletion rates. Lubmarine said service life is expected to last for at least 32,000 hours in engines with a 5 vol% concentration. There is no need to introduce supplementary additives to WT Supra as there is minimal depletion of active ingredients.
Mr Fuller described it as essentially a “fill-for-life product, which saves on regular maintenance and costly downtime especially when correct top-up procedures are followed.”
The company said its tests indicated that the organic inhibitors used in the coolant provide optimal results at high running temperatures which the company attributed to its anti-corrosion and anti-cavitation protectors.
