MAATS Tech Ltd in the UK says installation of the cable-lay equipment on Nexans new cable-lay vessel Nexans Aurora has commenced at Ulstein Verft in Norway
A team from MAATS and Marine Fabricators Ltd arrived at the yard in mid-October to begin the installation, which kicked off with two lay wheels being fitted at the stern of the vessel.
The wheels, in combination with specially-designed fairings, assist in guiding the cable in a controlled manner as it enters and exits the vessel.
Following the lay wheels, final installation work is now being completed on MAATS’ tensioners and a 75-tonne SWL capstan.
The design of the innovative vessel draws on the combined expertise of Nexans’ and its extensive cable laying experience, Skipsteknisk’s naval architecture know-how and MAATS’ specialist engineering.
The vessel will have a concentric, split basket 10,000-tonne carousel, dual cable-lay capabilities, the ability to utilise separate capstan or tensioner firing lines and the ability to undertake operations in severe weather conditions.
