Denmark’s Maersk Supply Service (MSS) completed its first contract for an anchor handling tug supply vessel in the Mexican Gulf and secured decommissioning work for the Dunlin Alpha platform in the North Sea
For Dunlin Alpha, MSS will remove the platform’s subsea conductors and guide frames under a contract from Fairfield Betula Limited. MSS will remove four 30-inch, jacket-mounted drilling conductors and two associated conductor guide frames using an I-class vessel.
Maersk I-class vessels have excellent power management capabilities and dual cranes, combined with work-class remotely operated vehicles (WROVs) that can be launched via the moonpool.
“This is a technically challenging scope with large periods of time spent alongside a platform,” said MSS head of integrated solutions Olivier Trouvé. “It is gratifying to see our engineered technical solution selected by Fairfield, as the removal of older conductors that cannot be pulled through topsides remains a challenge throughout the North Sea,” added Mr Trouvé.
Project management and engineering commences this year, with offshore execution planned for 2022 or 2023.
In addition, the Danish OSV owner completed its first contract for an anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel in Mexico in May. As part of the preparation for a drilling rig to begin work on the field, Maersk Transporter installed anchors and chain for an eight-point anchor system.
Maersk Transporter made two voyages from Mexico to Port Fourchon, Louisiana, to load out the required equipment. Four anchors and over 1,600 m of chain were loaded during each voyage.
Back on location offshore Mexico, eight anchors were installed, and more than 3,200 m of chain was laid on the seabed. The chains were then connected with a pennant wire to a surface buoy to await the arrival of a drilling rig.
“The pre-lay was completed safely and efficiently – a job very well done by the crew,” said operations manager Mexico Michel Ole Pedersen. “As the first contract for one of our AHTS vessels in Mexico, we are proud to have demonstrated the strong capabilities of our vessels and crew to this market,” added Mr Pedersen.
