Maran Gas Maritime is investing in digitalisation to monitor its gas-carrier fleet
Kongsberg Maritime has secured a contract to provide its K-IMS platform for continuous access to data and web-based optimisation solutions. This platform will be rolled out across a fleet of more than 20 LNG tankers by the end of this year.
Maran Gas Maritime executive vice president and technical director Andreas Spertos said K-IMS would be deployed on more gas carriers, including newbuildings in following years.
“Implementation of K-IMS will continue for existing and newbuild vessels until the entire fleet of over 40 LNG carriers is upgraded,” he said.
Mr Spertos said K-IMS would replace the existing data transfer system on these ships, which has limited capability. “K-IMS will provide us with unlimited opportunities to develop and advance further our inhouse fleet monitoring and analysis systems that support the safe, efficient and environmentally friendly operation of the fleet,” said Mr Spertos.
Most ships in the Maran Gas fleet already have K-IMS-ready hardware in place. Any outstanding vessels have been taken into consideration in the overall rollout plan, said Kongsberg Maritime sales director for LNG Anders Sjuls Fjeld.
“Data replication is then enabled via software applications on our K-IMS onboard and onshore solutions,” he said.
K-IMS is a suite of specialised applications hosted on the Kognifai open digital ecosystem. It is designed for continuous access to data at sea and from shore, for the application of automated viewing and optimisation tools and interactive dashboards.
Users can add inhouse or third-party applications within this cloud-based ecosystem.
