Kuwait Oil Tanker Co (KOTC) selected Marflex’s NQZR cargo control and monitoring system for its flexibility and diagnostics functions. The system was deployed on four MR tankers built at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in South Korea (Tanker Shipping & Trade, April/May 2014). KOTC uses the equipment to monitor cargo systems and provide diagnostics of Marflex’s electric drive deepwell pumps. The sensor readings and process data are automatically logged in a database and help engineers predict specific vessel maintenance requirements. NQZR can also control other systems, such as ballast water treatment, valve control stations, and third-party pump systems.
KOTC realised the value of the system’s flexibility to handle cargo operations and monitor equipment. “We feel that the basic philosophy for our system is its reliability and flexibility to operate with minimal failures or faults,” says KOTC manager of fleet newbuilding projects Jamil Al-Ali. “Although NQZR has been recently fitted and requires further monitoring over the years, so far the system has been proven user friendly and very reliable. One thing that really stood out was that Marflex addressed the teething issues during sea trials.” OSJ
