Poland’s MMC Ship Design & Marine Consulting inks design contract with China’s Fujian Mawei for 10 large new generation DP-2-class platform supply vessels
MMC Ship Design & Marine Consulting has been contracted by China’s Fujian Mawei Shipyard for the design of 10 5,400-dwt, methanol dual-fuel battery-hybrid platform supply vessels (PSVs).
Based on the ship designer’s MMC 897 SBC design, the PSVs will be “designed to perform a variety of offshore support tasks, including the transportation of essential supplies, equipment, and personnel to offshore platforms, ensuring reliable operations in some of the world’s most demanding maritime environments,” wrote MMC Ship Design vice president and chief design Michal Olko in a social media post.
“This contract represents an important achievement for MMC, as we continue to expand our design portfolio and strengthen our role as a key player in the global maritime sector," said Mr Olko. "The PSV MMC 897 SBC units are designed to set new benchmarks in performance, safety, and versatility for offshore supply vessels.”
The PSVs will have an overall length of 94.76 m, beam of 19 m, depth of 8 m, with a clear deck area of 1,020 m2. Each diesel-electric vessel will have variable-speed gensets, a DC Grid, and be capable of operating on methanol as a propulsion fuel. Propulsion and manoeuvrability will be supplied by four 2,200-kw methanol dual fuel gensets and one 500-kW harbour genset, with 750 kW of batteries, two 2,150-kW azimuthing thrusters, one 1,250-kW retractable thruster, and two 1,000-kW tunnel thrusters.
They will be designed to accommodate 60, and have a remotely operated vehicle mezzanine deck, helicopter deck, moonpool and a subsea active heave compensation crane with a capacity between 70 and 100 tonnes.
These DP-2-class PSVs will have a maximum speed of 14 knots, with class notations FFV Class 1, Oil recovery Class 1 and 2, IMO Chemical Code and IMO IP Code.
