MPC Container Ships adopts digital tools for safer, secure voyages

MPC Container Ships is installing a software suite across its fleet of 59 ships to improve its visibility of shipboard operations and support crews.

It has tested a digital platform, which incorporates artificial intelligence (AI), on several ships and will roll this out across its fleet to provide greater insight to managers and seafarers. The digital platform’s real-time information provides early hazard detection and alerts shipowners, managers and seafarers to onboard events.

“At MPC Container Ships, we believe in empowering our captains and crew with the tools they need to operate safely, confidently and efficiently at sea,” said MPC Container Ships chief operating officer Christian Rychly. “We are deeply committed to fostering a culture of safety and operational excellence across our fleet.”

MPC is installing Boston, USA-headquartered ShipIn Systems’ FleetVision across its fleet of feeder container ships, which has a total carriage capacity of 140,000 TEU and 96% utilisation.

These ships range from 1,250-5,500 TEU, were built from 2004 and include two dual-fuel methanol container carriers built in 2025 and a vessel due to enter service in 2026.

“By equipping our vessels with FleetVision, we are taking a significant step forward in protecting our seafarers,” said Mr Rychly. “This tool provides us with real-time insights that allow for quicker responses and better decision-making, ensuring safer, more secure voyages for every crew member.”
