Multraship secures Dutch Coastguard contract with newbuild FCS

Multraship Towage & Salvage has gained a contract from Rijkswaterstaat Rijksrederij, the Netherlands government’s agency for vessel fleets, to supply an emergency response and security enforcement ship on a long-term contract.

This 50-m vessel will be owned, manned and maintained by Multraship and operated by the Netherlands Coastguard to protect maritime and offshore infrastructure and shipping in the southern North Sea, as well as other security duties.

Multraship said this fast crew supply (FCS) vessel, Enforcer, will be built to start operations in mid-2026 by Damen Shipyards to Damen’s FCS 5009 design. It will be deployed to ensure the continuity of general coastguard duties in the North Sea until a new generation of low-emissions coastguard ships goes into operation after 2030.

Multraship managing director Leendert Muller welcomed the contract, adding this FCS vessel will improve safety in the North Sea.

“It ties in well with our present partners,” he said. Multraship already supplies Rijksrederij with three emergency response and towing vessels, used for towage operations and general coastguard duties.

Adding Enforcer will build on the successful alliance between government and maritime partners. 

It will have a top speed of 27 knots and an axe bow for cutting through rough seas, a towing module, FiFi1 fire-fighting system and two high-speed tenders for inspections and enforcement at sea.
