Maritime tech company Nautilus Labs has expanded its pilot programme with TotalEnergies to optimise the performance of LNG carriers and reduce greenhouse gas emissions on its path towards carbon neutrality
A major industry charterer, Total was seeking a technology partner to assist in data analysis to help optimise operational fleet efficiency and curb emissions. As the charterer works with several shipowners, it requires a single system that can easily integrate with all existing ship-to-shore systems.
The companies began partnering in November 2020 and use of Nautilus’ technology has since expanded to Total’s full long-term chartered fleet.
The Nautilus platform uses high-frequency sensor data, builds machine learning models to predict true vessel performance and provides operational recommendations to optimise voyage profits and save fuel costs.
For LNG fleets, the company’s data platform provides automated CTMS reporting, boil-off accounting, accurate measurements of gas combustion unit consumption, real-time, precise accounting of fuel consumption and cargo tank levels to ensure adherence to commercial warranties to mitigate claims.
Commenting on the extension of the partnership, TotalEnergies vice president LNG shipping Jerome Cousin said “As a charterer, your systems and partners have to be flexible, smart and able to adapt to new requirements and regulations. In Nautilus we found a solution that can work with any owner and seamlessly integrates all data sets, helping us optimise performance and decisions made during voyages, to ultimately cut greenhouse gas emissions.”
Total is a signatory to the Sea Cargo charter which pledges to assess and disclose emissions from its shipping activities.Nautilus Labs chief executive Matt Heider added, “We often see siloed data and stakeholders in the industry, resulting in fuel waste and excess emissions. Nautilus Platform supports TotalEnergies in breaking down those barriers and embracing open collaboration.”
