Brazilian tugboat fleet takes shape with new launches

Camorim Serviços Marítimos has added three tugs to its fleet to enhance ship towage, handling and docking in Brazilian ports.

The Brazilian owner named the latest in a five-vessel newbuilding campaign at the Detroit Shipyard in Itajaí, Brazil at the start of February 2025 as the vessel travelled down the slipway out of drydock.

C-Albatroz is the third tug built in this series, following C-Fenix which was delivered in November 2024 and C-Falcao, launched mid-January.

These 24-m azimuth stern drive tugboats are built to a DB-2470 design with a bollard pull of 70 tonnes, a forward winch for ship handling, tyre fendering and Marsis-delivered FiFi1 fire-fighting systems.

Detroit Brasil is scheduled to launch two similar tugs, C-Condor in Q1 2025, and C-Harpia in Q2 2025, all for Brazilian ports.

“These new additions further strengthen our performance in Brazilian ports,” said Camorim. “And the expansion continues. Soon, we will welcome the next tug in the series: C-Condor.”

Also in 2024, Camorim added line handler C-Cabedelo to its fleet after its construction at the Camorim Shipyard. 

In October 2024, oil spill response vessel Aegis arrived in Brazil after a 29-day voyage from Greece to bolster Camorim’s position in the emergency response and offshore market. It has advanced equipment for oil collection, fighting spillages and operating as a contingency vessel. Aegis started its four-year charter to energy group Petrobras in the offshore sector in January 2025.
