August 2010 saw DOF Subsea, through a joint venture with Technip, take delivery of Skandi Vitoria, the new flagship for the company’s fleet in Brazil.
The pipelay vessel, built by STX Europe Brasil, is the first PLSV ever built in Brazil. With an STX Europe OSCV 6 design, Skandi Vitoria is well suited for pipelaying, subsea construction, installation and maintenance work.
Skandi Vitoria has a diesel-electric propulsion system and is 150.2m overall with a breadth of 27m and moulded depth of 12m. It is able to lay pipe in waters 3,000m deep.
The new vessel is equipped with a vertical and horizontal pipelay system, a carousel for 2,000 tonnes of product, a second carousel for 750 tonnes of product, two work-class ROVs and a 250 tonne active heave-compensated crane. Skandi Vitoria will begin work on a 4+4 year contract for Petrobras, which is anticipated to commence in October.
Norskan Offshore Ltda will be responsible for the marine manning and vessel operations; Technip Brasil will perform the pipelay and ROV services. Skandi Vitoria is 80 per cent financed by BNDES, the Brazilian Development Bank. OSJ
