A new fishing vessel commissioned by Albacora Group and designed by Astilleros Armón will use Schottel’s SCP 109 4-X propeller
The freezer-seiner’s propulsion will include a Schottel controllable pitch propeller type (SCP) 109 4-X, featuring an input power of 6,000-kW and propeller diameter of 4.0m. It reaches a maximum speed of 20 knots.
SCPs offer an adjustable blade pitch making it suitable for a wide range of operations including manoeuvring, berthing, and casting or hauling nets. Schottel said operators will benefit from a higher degree of efficiency, lower operating costs and reduced fuel consumption as a result.
At 95.1m by 14.8m and 3,700 gt, Galerna Lau is Albacora’s largest vessel in recent years and the third ultra-freezing project Astilleros Armón has constructed for the vessel’s Spanish owner.
Spain’s Albacora Group operates the largest tuna fishing fleet in the European Union. The company, which catches skipjack, yellowfin and bigeye tuna, operates a fleet of 19 purse seiners used to fish in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans. Galerna Lau will work in the Atlantic ocean.
Astilleros Armón builds vessels of up to 180 m in length, including offshore vessels, fishing boats, tugs, speedboats, dredgers, freighters, ocean survey and research vessels, ferries and yachts.
The Galerna Lau vessel was built at the shipbuilder’s Vigo shipyard in Spain.
Schottel has also won recent contracts to supply propulsion systems for a series of live fish carriers and an all-aluminium ferry.
