A new shallow water towage and dredging workboat has begun operations in Saudi Arabia. Murjan Al-Sharq Marine Services has taken delivery of a Multi Cat 1908 workboat from Damen Shipyards Group.
Murjan 40 is equipped with a submersible dredge pump for maintenance dredging activities and sand mining. It also has deck equipment for towage work and an A frame for subsea operations.
Murjan Al-Sharq Marine Services vice president Chris Clark said the vessel can “take on a wide range of specialist jobs”, including precision dredging. “The versatility of the multi cat means that we can also use it for other jobs such as transportation, towage, dive support, pollution control and anchor-handling.”
The vessel is already equipped for its first contract, said Murjan Al-Sharq Marine Services.
Damen has azimuthing stern drive tugs and other workboats for sale in the Middle East. Tug Technology & Business saw two of these at the Albwardy Damen shipyard in the United Arab Emirates last week. During that visit, Tug Technology & Business witnessed the successful sea trial of the first of two fast supply vessels that Damen has built for Dubai-based owner Marine Core & Charter.
